Singapore Hotels

Good Alternatives for the Money

Ok, ok, so you want to know about Singapore hotels that won't break the bank and still offer a modicum of comfort and cleanliness for your stay.

As I mentioned before, with the big push to develop Singapore into a regional hub for leisure and gaming, hotel prices have gone up stoutly these last few years, so finding a 'deal' is becoming harder.

Nevertheless, a few exist and they aren't bad as options for budget conscious travelling.

Sports Club and Hotel, What, What?

This is an odd combination for Singapore hotels: a leisure and sports club founded in 1883, right in the middle of town overlooking the historic Padang, coupled with some rooms and suites for a fairly affordable price.

Welcome to the The Residence at the Singapore Recreation Club. Although the SRC is located next to a very busy road and the level of noise can be bothersome, the location makes up for it all: the Raffles Hotel, Padang, St. Andrew's Cathedral, major shopping malls, the historic district and iconic Marina Bay are literally 5 minutes' walk away.

The rooms are up to Singapore standards - if small - and staff is friendly enough to accommodate any special needs if possible

Off The Beaten Track

If you don't mind being a bit away from the hustle and bustle -don't worry, though, a bit away in Singapore isn't far at all - consider Hotel Nostalgia in at 77, Tiong Bahru Road.

You can walk to Chinatown and the river district with Clarke Quay party mile or Singapore General Hospital from the hotel and even in the heat you should be ok.

This hotel is a far cry from your standard Singapore hotel and either you like that or hate it.

Service is excellent - rooms are small, but then again, how big a room you need is always a very personal question.

Very Cheap, Very Cheerful

Finally, if you really need to watch the budget, there are number of chain hotels in Singapore catering to the cost-conscious including the Hotel 81 chain, the Fragrance Chain and the Value Chain.

As can be expected in this high-price city, don't expect the best in interiors or service, but the cost is unbeatable.

Last of all, you can always check out some of the backpacker's in little India for the very special ambience of that styleof travel

The InnCrowd and The Hive in Little India are favorites, as are the BetelBox a bit outside in Geylang, and City Backpackers right near Clarke Quay.

So there you have it!
